New bonds for better interiors

Vehicle interiors are evolving to accommodate the transition to autonomous driving and increased shared mobility, requiring -- more durable, replaceable materials, storage compartments, instrument panels, and interactive infotainment centers. Bonding dissimilar materials and the desire for optimizing package space are among the challenges. Tried and true bonding methods such as bolts, rivets and spot welding may not be optimal in these modern interior design challenges.

3M can help, with our extensive experience in the automotive bonding and joining. The result is an ever-growing range of bonding solutions that can also streamline assembly and production. Learn more below.

Bonding materials. Meeting challenges.

3M™ Adhesive Transfer Tapes

  • Two rolls of adhesive transfer tape

Featuring pressure-sensitive adhesives that can be combined with a wide variety of interior materials including hard to bond plastics, foam and fabrics, these transfer tapes can add reliability and efficiency almost anywhere in the automotive interior.

3M™ Hot Melt Adhesives

  • hot melt adhesives

Available in low- and high-temperature versions, these heat-resistant adhesives liquify to bond to a variety of substrates, including polyethylene, polypropylene and other plastics. They cool, harden and reach bond strength in seconds, eliminating clamps, fixturing and drying.

3M™ Wire Harness Tapes

  • Preinstall of 3M wire harness tapes in headliner

Double-sided acrylic sealing tapes feature excellent initial adhesion, heat resistance and durability compared to conventional butyl sealing tapes. They bond to rough or highly irregular surfaces - excellent for headliners, roof lining and impact pads, sunroof trim rings, head impact countermeasures, instrument panels and more.
