Highlights
  • Bond line can be laid in variable widths, thicknesses and profiles
  • Bond line can be closed immediately (hot) or after weeks (cold)
  • Stretch release technology allows easy removal for reworkability and reduced scrap
  • Excellent adhesion to metals, glass, rubber, LSE plastics, woven and non-woven textiles, and hard-to-bond materials
  • Some substrates require little or no surface preparation, including slightly oily surfaces (testing required to confirm application suitability)

3M™ VHB™ Extrudable Tape GP is a high strength pressure-sensitive adhesive that provides immediate handling strength, fast and easy application, and delivers the durability that customers require. This new bonding solution, tailor-made for automation, reimagines tape, providing a faster, simplified, more sustainable solution for manufacturing processes. It provides excellent adhesion to many substrates – in some cases with little or no surface preparation – and has a stretch release feature that allows clean adhesive removal.

Efficient and versatile for automated bonding 3M™ VHB™ Extrudable Tape GP is an extrudable high strength pressure-sensitive adhesive that requires little or no surface preparation for some substrates and offers immediate handling strength. This versatile material can be applied in variable widths and thicknesses and even around corners without wrinkles or gaps, and can provide an air- and watertight seal if desired. The hot bond line can be closed immediately with a second substrate, or a liner can be applied and the second substrate can be added to the cooled tape later. A stretch release feature allows the tape to be removed cleanly from a part by pulling parallel to the surface so the part can be reprocessed with minimal waste. 3M™ VHB™ Extrudable Tape GP offers excellent adhesion to metals, glass, rubber, low surface energy (LSE) plastics, woven and non-woven textiles, and hard-to-bond materials, including slightly oily surfaces. This material has no special storage or curing requirements.

Recommended Applications

  • Designed for use with the 3M™ On Demand Bonding System
  • Assemblies requiring immediate handling strength
  • Bonding applications that will benefit from increased productivity through automation
  • Assemblies that need to fill gaps and turn corners without wrinkles or gaps
  • Curved surfaces, irregular shapes and/or mismatching components
  • Processes which need to replace several specialized solutions with one single adhesive

An Unconventional Foam Tape
In the 1980s, 3M™ VHB™ Tapes line of purpose-built tapes forever changed manufacturing, allowing users to bond industrial materials quickly, securely, and permanently without mechanical fasteners such as screws or rivets. Initially used for bonding panels to the frames of ambulances, 3M™ VHB™ Tapes proved superior to other bonding methods – quickly - due to its ability to distribute stress loads across the entire joint instead of concentrating stress loads around each individual fastener. Since then, 3M™ VHB™ Tapes have become the industry standard in transportation, appliance, construction, fabrication, and electronics applications. Today, 3M continues that legacy by extending its 3M™ VHB™ Tape solutions even further, opening a new era of manufacturing capabilities enabled by heightened flexibility, increased speed, improved automation, and unmatched sustainability. 3M™ VHB™ Extrudable Tape GP unites the best qualities of 3M™ VHB™ Tapes with the flexibility of liquid adhesives, without any of their historic drawbacks. While liquid adhesives offer excellent flexibility in terms of where and how they are applied, they can be messy, difficult to handle, increase waste, and require longer curing times – all factors that increase manufacturing time and overall costs. In contrast, 3M™ VHB™ Extrudable Tape GP is dispensed from an easily stored filament spool eliminating liners and container waste. 33M™ On Demand Bonding System (designed in collaboration with Nordson Corporation) allows 3M™ VHB™ Extrudable Tape GP to dispense practically anywhere. The material bonds instantly with immediate handling strength, which significantly streamlines, simplifies and speeds up production procedures.
