      You face challenges like bonding dissimilar or complex materials, odor reduction and the desire for optimizing package space, all with cost efficiency and sustainability in mind. Tried and true bonding methods such as bolts, rivets and spot welding may not be optimal for these modern needs.

This lightweight fastener can be mixed and matched for a range of closure strengths, and holds its strength even under repeated use — in fact, it can be opened and re-closed up to 1000 times in higher-cycle applications.

    Featuring pressure-sensitive adhesives that can be combined with a wide variety of interior materials including hard-to-bond plastics, foam and fabrics, 3M™ Adhesive Transfer Tape can add reliability and efficiency almost anywhere in the automotive interior. It is designed for thin, permanent and reliable bonds without mechanical fasteners and can be converted into precise shapes for the most effective, invisible bonds.

  • 3M™ Double-Sided Tape
    Bond without curing

    A double-sided, acrylic adhesive that provides excellent bonds to a wide range of automotive interior substrates, from plastics, foams and fabrics to a variety of metals, lightweight 3M™ Double-Sided Tape is a pressure-sensitive adhesive that bonds instantly without curing. A variety of release liners add strength and stability for laminating and die cutting, and with a different adhesive on each side, these tapes are excellent for bonding dissimilar materials.

  • Eliminate clamps, fixturing and cooling

    Excellent for small joint, mounting and trim attachment, interior door panels, headliners, and large surface lamination for automotive interiors, heat-resistant 3M™ Hot Melt Adhesive liquefies to bond to a variety of substrates, including hard-to-bond surfaces like polyethylene, polypropylene and other plastics. Available in low- and high-temperature versions, this versatile and durable adhesive cools, hardens and reaches bond strength in seconds, eliminating clamps, fixturing and cooling.

    Enjoy a faster, simplified bonding solution with less waste. Stretch release means less waste and allows faster rework, and there isn't liner waste or die-cut waste, as there is with tape. Specifically made for automation, 3M™ VHB™ Extrudable Tape GP provides excellent adhesion to many substrates — in some cases with little or no surface preparation.

    • Controlling sound and temperature inside the vehicle is one of the biggest challenges for OEMs. Due to electrification, sources of unwanted noise in the cabin are changing, especially as road and tire noise is no longer drowned out by the engine. Effective noise, vibration and harshness (NVH) mitigation involves much more than just gap filling. Managing cabin temperature also looks different — not only is it about passenger comfort, but it’s also about preserving power to help extend EV range.

  • 3M™ Flexile Acoustic Material FAB Series

    Mitigate low-frequency noise

    Enjoy excellent mid frequency (500-2000 Hz) absorption without sacrificing performance in high frequencies (>2000 Hz)​. An absorber and barrier in one, 3M™ Flexile Acoustic Material FAB Series leverages acoustic particles and a fibrous structure to address current and emerging NVH challenges in a single, non-molded layer. This material is lighter weight than typical barriers, which has the potential to help increase range and improve fuel efficiency. It’s also thin — allowing you more flexibility in your designs and the potential to increase cabin space.

    3M™ Flexile Acoustic Material FAB Series can be combined with 3M™ Thinsulate™ Acoustic Insulation to provide a high-performing decoupled solution.

  • Excellent acoustic absorption per unit weight

    Maintain comfortable interior temperatures regardless of the environment outside. High-performance 3M™ Thinsulate™ Acoustic Insulation is is designed to absorb noise and dissipate heat.

  • Reduce vibration and structure-borne noise

    Get high NVH performance from smaller parts, at a much lower weight than traditional constrained layer damping materials. 3M™ Engineered Damping Material damps structure-borne noise even in designs using lightweight substrates such as composites. It is thin, flexible and conformable, and features a low-density engineered stem web standoff layer. This adhesive-backed and customizable material installs more easily and cleanly, and in more places vs. butyl or bitumen.

    Lighter parts help enable the opportunity to extend EV range. 3M™ Glass Bubbles are tiny glass microspheres which are easily incorporated into a wide range of polymers to replace heavy fillers such as calcium carbonate for durable plastic parts at a lighter weight. Glass bubbles are designed to survive injection molding and extrusion and can be modified to suit nearly any density requirement for automotive plastic parts.
