When we speak with welders they tell us one of their main goals is to improve their efficiency on the job. So, in listening to what they want, we combined some of the PPE welders need into a single integrated system. Offering up to five different types of welder protection in one easy-to-use system, to help welders confront the tough working conditions they face.
When it comes to welding, 3M doesn’t just help protect against eye injuries - we’re committed to helping empower you to reduce welder’s exposure to: hearing, respiratory and head hazards. One of our welding PAPRs allows for less time wasted switching between and refitting standalone PPE, while air flow allows welders to stay comfortable under the helmet. Best of all, increased comfort allows for less breaks – meaning workers can weld longer and get the job done.

The multifaceted nature of work in a shipyard means welders face a number of challenges. Welders rely on more than their skills to do their job – they also depend on their equipment. 3M worked with a large defense contractor who had previously used a whole host of equipment to tackle eye injuries, welding fumes, heat management and more – but these were cumbersome, and compliance was difficult. With traditional helmets only combatting certain hazards, 3M trialled four solutions and found productivity rocketed with the use of their integrated Speedglas™ solution with Adlfo PAPR.
Welders wearing the 3M™ Adflo™ PAPR with 3M™ Speedglas™ 9100FX-Air Welding Helmet reported 44% higher productivity compared to non PAPR equipment with a passive welding lens. Read the full case study to see what led to the increases.
Welders rely on more than their skills to do their job – they also depend on their equipment. We take their experience and use this to continually improve our solutions at the 3M Welding Center of Excellence, where thanks to our team of experts, we introduced the innovative auto-darkening welding filter.
But we don’t just look out for eye injuries. We’re committed to reducing risks to your hearing, lungs and head, which is why our helmets aren’t just headgear – they’re an integrated PPE solution. We give you advanced optics for enhanced color, highly durable materials for long-lasting protection and total comfort to get the best out of your work. Because when you’re given the tools you need to do your job, we know that’s when you give it your all.
