Case Study: Increasing Welding Productivity in a Shipyard

The multifaceted nature of work in a shipyard means welders face a number of challenges. Welders rely on more than their skills to do their job – they also depend on their equipment. 3M worked with a large defense contractor who had previously used a whole host of equipment to tackle eye injuries, welding fumes, heat management and more – but these were cumbersome, and compliance was difficult. With traditional helmets only combatting certain hazards, 3M trialled four solutions and found productivity rocketed with the use of their integrated Speedglas™ solution with Adlfo PAPR.

Welders wearing the 3M™ Adflo™ PAPR with 3M™ Speedglas™ 9100FX-Air Welding Helmet reported 44% higher productivity compared to non PAPR equipment with a passive welding lens. Read the full case study to see what led to the increases.
