3M™ Brightness Enhancement Film (BEF) and 3M™ Dual Brightness Enhancement Film (DBEF) are recycling, light management films that are used to increase the brightness of backlights used in liquid crystal displays (LCD). The brightness increase can be the primary goal or it can be translated to power savings or thermal management. 3M™ Enhanced Specular Reflector (ESR) can be used to increase the overall efficiency of the backlight.
3M™ Dual Brightness Enhancement Film (DBEF)
3M™ DBEF is a multilayer, reflective polarizer. 3M™ DBEF polarizes the backlights output so that it can transmit through the liquid crystal panel. Light of the wrong polarization is recycled into the backlight. The recycled light would normally be absorbed, and lost, by the rear polarizer of the liquid crystal panel. 3M™ DBEF increases both brightness and the amount of light available over the entire LCD and is available in different configurations that can be useful for your specific application needs. 3M™ DBEF can also be used in conjunction with 3M™ BEF and 3M™ ESR.
3M™ Dual Brightness Enhancement Film II (DBEF II)
3M™ DBEF II is a thin, multi-layer reflective polarizer. It features two diffuse surfaces to provide brightness enhancement and high visual quality. 3M™ DBEF II can improve display efficiency, uniformity and defect hiding, and has the ability to prevent wet-out against smooth surfaces. 3M™ DBEF II also allows you to eliminate a diffuser sheet and thus provides multifunctionality.
3M™ Dual Brightness Enhancement Film (DBEF) QV2 with Optically Clear Adhesive (OCA)
3M™ DBEF-QV2 with adhesive film is a thin, multi-layer reflective polarizer designed to be laminated to the rear polarizer of an LCD panel to maximize brightness while reducing the risk of warping at higher temperatures. LCD panel efficiency is improved by reducing the amount of light normally absorbed by the panel polarizer.
3M™ DBEF QV2 with adhesive allows one polarization of light to pass and the other reflected light is recycled in the backlight to boost display performance, increase end user viewing experience by improving front of the screen performance, and reducing the energy required to drive the backlight.
3M™ Brightness Enhancement Film
3M™ BEF is a prismatic film that manages the angular output of light from the backlight and uses refraction to compress the backlights output towards an on-axis viewer. 3M™ BEF films can be used as single sheets or as two sheets crossed at 90° to each other and is available in different configurations that can be useful for your specific application needs. 3M™ BEF can also be used in conjunction with 3M™ DBEF and 3M™ ESR.
3M™ Enhanced Specular Reflector (ESR)
3M™ Enhanced Specular Reflector (ESR) is a thin film, 100% polymer reflector. 3M™ ESR is used as the backlight reflector for LCD's and provides ›98% reflectance, across the entire visible spectrum, to maximize the recycling efficiency of backlights for your LCD's. 3M™ ESR can be used in conjunction with 3M™ BEF and 3M™ DBEF.
3M™ Advanced Light Control Film (ALCF) is a microlouver film that controls the distribution of light perpendicular to the louver structure (viewing angle). 3M™ ALCF can be used to create privacy, control reflections or improve display contrast. 3M™ Industrial Display Thermal Management Film (IDTMF) is a near infrared (IR) blocking film that helps prevent overheating of outdoor and semi outdoor displays due to solar loading.
3M™ ALCF is a louver film with a 48 or 60 degree viewing angle and is available with or without a matte hardcoat. 3M™ ALCF is designed to be used on the outside of an LCD, and can go between the touch panel and the LCD.
3M™ IDTMF is a non-metallic multi-layer film that provides infrared reflective/thermal load reduction for displays with little or no effect on visible light transmission. 3M™ IDTMF is neutral in color and therefore can be used with a wide variety of colored or reflective glasses.
3M™ Protection Films help protect displays against damage that can occur from the rigors of everyday use. These films provide protection against moisture ingress in sensitive displays as well as glare and scratch protection. Compatible with optically clear adhesives and pressure sensitive adhesives.
3M™ Barrier Films are designed to provide a barrier to water and oxygen transmission while maintaining the optical transmittance characteristics of the base films. These optically clear multilayer films are remarkably impermeable due to their construction consisting of a polyester substrate with a very thin barrier coating made of layers of polymer and oxide. These films are lighter, more impact resistant, and more flexible than glass.
