Advanced film-backed abrasive technology for precision processing and finishing

3M™ Lapping and Polishing Films deliver exceptional consistency and control for precision finishing and polishing. You can produce fine finishes to meet the rigid standards of highly technical electronic or related specialty finishing applications, even for hard-to-grind materials such as ceramics, hardened metals, exotic alloys and composites. They also provide a cleaner and faster alternative to diamond slurries or stones in many applications.

3M films for lapping and polishing feature a durable polyester film backing and are available with abrasives including diamond, aluminum oxide, silicon carbide, silicone dioxide and cerium oxide for a wide range of target finish requirements.

3M lapping and polishing films are excellent for helping you create process efficiency and refined finishing for a wide range of applications including displays, mobile and medical devices, disk hard drives, micromotors, waveguides and many others. They are high-performing solutions for precision lapping, edge finishing and microfinishing on substrates such as glass, composites, sapphire, SiC, zirconium, metal, plastics and more.
Ideal for polishing fiber optics

3M lapping and polishing films can help you consistently meet geometry and fiber height requirements in your single fiber ceramic or multi-fiber connector polishing operations. Made of precisely-graded minerals coated on film or fibrous film backings, they are excellent for attaining proper ferrule geometries. You can control fiber height, reduce cleaning through slurriless processing, increase throughput, reduce rejects and more.
