• 3M PSD Occupational Health and Safety Scholarship Program (2018)

    • The 3M Personal Safety Division’s (PSD) Occupational Health and Safety Scholarship Program signifies PSD’s support of quality education and training in the occupational health and safety / industrial hygiene profession. The program is designed to help recognize the contributions and importance of proper safety and health practices and training in the workplace.

      Three scholarships, in the amount of $5,000 USD each, will be awarded by PSD to selected students pursuing graduate-level education in Occupational Health or Safety / Industrial Hygiene in the US or Canada. In addition to the scholarships, PSD will provide each awardee with airfare, accommodations for up to four nights, conference registration and a $50.00 USD per diem to attend the American Industrial Hygiene Association Conference and Exposition, May 20-24, 2018 in Philadelphia, PA, USA. A reception for the awardees will be held on Sunday May 20th at 5:30 pm.

      The deadline to receive applications is Friday March 9, 2018. Submissions received after the deadline will not be considered.

      Scholarship Program Rules
       

      • Applicants must be currently enrolled in, or accepted into, a graduate Occupational Health and Safety / Industrial Hygiene program at a university in the United States.
      • Applicants must have at least one year remaining in their graduate studies from the Application Deadline. (Graduatation date of spring 2019 at the earliest.)
      • Applicants must prepare a cover letter, of no more than two pages, describing their accomplishments, career goals, commitment to the profession and why they deserve the scholarship.
      • An official current school transcript, including grade point average, must be included with each application. Providing an official undergraduate transcript is also advised, but not required.
      • Two letters of recommendation, one preferably from a certified industrial hygienist or certified safety professional or equivalent certification, must be included with the application.
         

      Scholarship awardees will travel to the American Industrial Hygiene Conference and Exposition (AIHCE), May 20-24 in Philadelphia, PA, USA. A reception for the awardees will be held on Sunday May 20 at 5:30 pm. 3M PSD will provide each awardee with airfare, accommodations for up to four nights, conference registration and a $50.00 USD per diem. Please note: Scholarship awardees will not be reimbursed for any existing/previously made airline reservations.
       

      • Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the awardee’s educational institution and must be applied toward costs of tuition, research, books or other expenses appropriate to their graduate studies at the discretion of their academic advisor.
      • Each scholarship awardee must be prepared to verify use of scholarship funds and AIHCE expenses in accordance with the 3M PSD Scholarship Program Rules.
      • Applications may be submitted by postal mail or email to the attention of Patricia Ostrander by March 9, 2018. Please include a valid email address.       Scholarship awardees will be chosen by a selection committee comprised 3M occupational health and safety professionals on the basis of academic achievement, related work experience, and professional goals. The selection committee reserves the right to verify the accuracy of any information received or obtained related to a particular applicant. The committee’s decision is final.
