• Preparing is preventing.

ScotchBlue™ Original Painter’s Tape being peeled off a wall.
    • Professional painters are known to say that a great paint job is “80 percent preparation and 20 percent application.” ScotchBlue™ ORIGINAL Painter’s Tape #2090 from 3M has been a key contributor to preparation for both professional and do-it-yourself painters for more than 25 years. It helps deliver sharp paint lines and professional results on a variety of surfaces such as walls, trim, glass and metal.

There’s also another benefit beneath the surface. ScotchBlue™ ORIGINAL Painter's Tape #2090 is produced without the use of solvent-based coatings. In fact, two coatings in this product were replaced with solvent-free alternatives decades ago. Solvent-free coatings and processes have helped 3M achieve its corporate goal to reduce VOC (Volatile Organic Compounds) and GHG (Greenhouse Gas) emissions in its manufacturing processes. This project is one reason 3M has been able to reduce VOC emissions by 99% (1990-2016) and Scope 1 and 2 absolute GHG emissions by 67% (2002-2016).

In addition, this project is a prime example of the positive impact created by 3M’s Pollution Prevention Pays (3P) Program. 3P was initiated in 1975 with a goal of preventing pollution at the source –in products and manufacturing processes – rather than removing it after it has been created. To date, the company has completed over 13,000 3P projects, avoiding 4.5 billion pounds (2.25 million short tons) of pollution.
