3M™ Cold Shrink Connector Insulators 8420 and 8430 Series are EPDM, factory-expanded rubber tubes designed with cold shrink technology and loaded on a removable plastic core. To install the connection, position it over the inline connector, pull the loose tab on the plastic core while unwinding the core in a counterclockwise direction, allowing the ends of the tube to shrink and form a secure seal. Engineered for primary insulation of solid dielectric insulated wires and cable splices rated up to 1000 volts, the insulators can be used for indoor and outdoor applications to provide a water-resistant seal. They are easy to install by hand, requiring no additional tools or heating sources. Accommodating a variety of cable sizes, 3M™ Cold Shrink Connector Insulators 8420 and 8430 Series provide physical protection and environmental sealing for terminal lug barrels, conduit coupling, and conduit-to-cable breakouts. These insulators are ideal for direct burial or submersible applications involving communication and other non-electrical operations, such as dig-in and sheath repairs, and secondary splices for both copper and aluminum conductors. They can withstand an operating temperature range between -40 °F to 194 °F (-40 °C to 90 °C) and meet the water seal requirements of ANSI C119.1. When you need dependable insulating properties with long-lasting resiliency, look no further than 3M™ Cold Shrink Connector Insulators 8420 and 8430 Series.
3M has over 40 years of lab-tested and industry-proven results demonstrating the reliability of cold shrink technology. 3M™ Cold Shrink Connector Insulators 8420 and 8430 Series and the other products in the cold shrink family are engineered with specially formulated materials that deliver a durable environmental seal and insulation. The core and tube sizing allows for a broader application range while preserving the seal and insulation properties of the EPDM rubber tube. Six diameter sizes accommodate cables up to 1000 volts, ranging from 10 AWG to 1000 kcmil, for both copper and aluminum conductors. For applications with high UV exposure or where visual inspection isn't feasible, it is recommended to overwrap the tubing with Scotch® Super 33+™ Vinyl Electrical Tape or Scotch® Self-Fusing Silicone Rubber Electrical Tape 70.
