    Site Area:   505 acres

    History of 3M Menomonie
3M Menomonie was established on a 500+ acre site in the beautiful Red Cedar and Chippewa river valley region.  Construction on 3M Menomonie began in September 1973 as a one-story facility.  Since our opening in 1974, numerous expansions occurred increasing the facility to over 712,000 square feet, which is over six times the size of the original facility.

Since its beginning, 3M Menomonie has played host to a wide variety of products and their respective divisions. While many of these products still remain, some have been developed, scaled up, commercialized, and manufactured at other 3M facilities.  3M Menomonie provides early manufacturing and development capabilities for 3M products not yet matured for full-scale production.

Over the past decades, the plant has evolved into one of the largest 3M US manufacturing plants supporting multiple divisions and manufacturing countless products.  While the manufacturing operations are focused on operational excellence, development activities remain a part of our plant DNA.  The plant has seen significant change, and employees have consistently demonstrated their ability to drive business success and adapt to meet the customer demands.

3M Menomonie is proud of the reputation its employees have created, and we continue to build on these strengths.

  • 3M Menomonie Life

Menomonie is located in the heart of West Central Wisconsin’s Chippewa Valley and has been a proud member of the community for over four decades. This small town of 15,750 residents was founded in 1830 and takes great pride in its rich history and progressive future.

The historic Mabel Tainter Theater is a fully functional Victorian-era theater with a year round performing arts season featuring nationally recognized artists.

The University of Wisconsin Stout, located in the heart of Menomonie, is also a valued member of our community.  It is internationally recognized for excellent degree programs in business, industry, technology, education, human development, and art and design.

Red Cedar State Trail is the starting point for a beautiful 14-mile bike ride.  This limestone surfaced trail runs along the Red Cedar River from Menomonie to the Chippewa River, where it connects with the Chippewa River Trail. The city of Menomonie also has an extensive road and paved trail system that biking enthusiasts enjoy, from flat and easy to hilly and challenging.  3M donated just over 2 acres of property to facilitate the completion of the bicycle loop around beautiful Lake Menomin.

Our area is blessed with many lakes and rivers, miles of biking, skiing and snowmobiling trails, and hundreds of acres of beautiful woodlands.  You are invited to attend an evening at the theater, walk along the beautiful Lake Menomin in the heart of the city, attend summertime concerts and ice cream socials in one of our many parks, sporting events, festivals and the many other traditions that Menomonie has to offer.  There are many fine restaurants in the area, and we have a local brewery that serves wood fired pizzas.

    Education

When it comes to education, Menomonie offers a variety of public and private school options.  The community of Menomonie has a long and rich history of supporting education.  Menomonie is also home to the University of Wisconsin-Stout and a satellite campus for the Chippewa Valley Technical College.  We are very proud of our tradition of excellence, academic programming, and co-curricular and extra-curricular opportunities available to our students
