    No Heat Needed

Cold shrink technology allows quick, heat-free installation.

    • Shrinks uniformly onto the cable when the core is removed
    • Improves installation speed by allowing greater mispositioning errors
    • Consistent radial pressure ensures our splices maintain an tight seal that expands and contracts with variations in temperature and electrical load on the cable, without loss of pressure.

    Certified Quality and Reliability

Each splice is factory-tested to help ensure performance.

    • Supports size transitions within the listed kit ranges
    • Compatible with standard copper or aluminum inline compression (crimp-type) connectors
    • Rated for 15 kV class cables; BIL 150 kV (equal to 25 kV class)
    • Meets or exceeds IEEE 404 requirements
    • One kit makes one splice

Applications

  • Inline Splicing of Medium-Voltage Shielded Cables

Splices tape shield, wire shield, UniShield®, and Longitudinally Corrugated (LC) shielded cables in commercial, industrial, and utility applications.

  • Size-Transition Splicing Within Kit Range

The splice body design can accommodate transitions within the allowable conductor range, supporting mixed aluminum and copper installations.

  • Environmental and Mechanical Cable Protection

The EPDM cold shrink jacket helps protect the splice from mechanical stress, moisture, and environmental exposure—supporting long-term field performance.

  • Tool-Free Medium-Voltage Cable Splice Workflows

Our cold shrink technology helps simplify installation workflows by not requiring a heat source, helping speed up installations even in tight or hazardous locations.

The 3M™ Cold Shrink QS-III Shielded Cable Splices 5513A, 5514A, 5515A and 5516A Series are 15 kV class inline splices for joining tape shield, wire shield, UniShield® or longitudinally corrugated (LC) shielded power cables. It is a cold shrink design sized to fit Type MV-90 or Type MV-105 cables with copper, or aluminum conductor sizes ranging from 2 AWG-1000 kcmil (35-500 mm²).

The cold shrink splice body is a one-piece molded design made of special formulated silicone rubbers, while the cold shrink jacketing is made of EPDM rubber for physical protection. Each splice manufactured is factory tested to provide reliability. The splices can be used with standard copper (Cu) or aluminum (Al/Cu) inline compression (crimp type) connectors, and can be used for size transitions within the listed kit size range. They are designed to exceed minimum industry test standards, and have a BIL rating of 150 kV (equal to a 25 kV voltage class). The 5513A, 5514A, 5515A and 5516A QS-III splices meet or exceed the 15 kV Voltage Class rating requirements of IEEE 404. Each kit makes one splice. Note: Cable sizes shown below are for standard insulation thickness. Final determining factor is cable insulation O.D.
