We developed 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Core Splice Film AF 3028 as a low density, thermally expanding core splice adhesive film for filling mismatched areas or reinforcing and splicing honeycomb core. With its expansion rate, this core splice film can effectively join honeycomb core of differing cell sizes.

Scotch-Weld Core Splice Films reliably splice honeycomb panels with toughness and high shear
AF 3028 and AF 3028 FR were designed for filling mismatch areas or reinforcing and splicing honeycomb core
Ready to Fly
We balance 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Core Splice Film AF 3028 properties to provide excellent performance with easy-to-use shop handling characteristics. Our heat-curing, easy handling film is designed to meet numerous customer specs in aerospace manufacturing. Its expansion rate allows for successful joining of honeycomb core of differing cell sizes. Please refer to the Tech Data Sheet (PDF, 27.7 KB) for specific information.

We formulated 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Core Splice Film AF 3028 to expand during cure for effective void filling and core splicing and will cure nicely through a range of temperatures, from 250°F (121°C) to 350°F (176°C). This variable cure rate combined with the film's easy handling gives you flexibility to design efficient processes. Even at slow heat up rates as low as .5°F/minute, AF 3028 still reaches full expansion. Its low sag properties and low volatile loss during cure, can help provide an excellent solution for mismatched areas or reinforcing and splicing honeycomb core applications. It provides high performance from -67°F to 350°F (-55°C to 176°C) to ensure a reliable service life.
