We developed 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Core Splice Film AF 3002 as a low density, thermally expanding core splice adhesive film designed for filling mismatched areas or reinforcing and splicing honeycomb core. With its 35-55% expansion rate, it is ideal for filling mismatched areas, and for splicing and reinforcing honeycomb core.
Ready to Fly
We balance 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Core Splice Film AF 3002 properties to provide excellent performance with easy-to-use shop handling characteristics. Our heat-curing, easy handling film is designed to meet numerous customer specs in aerospace manufacturing and MRO. Its expansion (35 – 55%) allows for successful joining of mismatched honeycomb structures, and its low sag during cure helps eliminate the need for rework.
3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Core Splice Film AF 3002 will cure through a range of temperatures from 250-350°F (121-177°C). This variable cure rate, combined with the film's easy handling, gives you flexibility to design efficient processes.
Dry Film vs. Wet Adhesive
Our thermally cured epoxy core splice film provides reliable strength at a precise thickness and creates clean, sharp bond lines, which helps predict and control final weight of components, vital in aircraft manufacturing. 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Core Splice Film AF 3002 is solvent based yet dry-to-the-touch, making it more efficient and easy to handle, not to mention a much cleaner operation. Ours is an epoxy in film form that can meet a wide range of splicing, mounting and sealing requirements in the aerospace industry without the mess and waste of liquid adhesives. Typical applications for this adhesive include composites and metal to metal or metal to honeycomb assembly using heat press or lamination methods. Our adhesive film offers numerous advantages over liquid epoxy adhesives including:
Dry Film Advantages
We took the strength and effectiveness of liquid adhesive and created a dry film that can be handled, cut to fit, die cut or applied in a clean, neat and precise manner. Why? Because we're always thinking of better ways to get the job done more efficiently and at reduced costs, 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Core Splice Film AF 3002 offers numerous advantages over traditional liquid adhesives such as:
Reduces Waste – Dispense with the mess with our dry epoxy adhesives instead of liquid. Down time for cleanup that comes with using mess-prone liquid adhesives will become a distant memory when you use 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Core Splice Film AF 3002 to drive efficiency and superior splicing results.
Promotes Efficiency – Our adhesive film is a complete, dry, bonding system that has a longer shelf life than liquid adhesives. What it doesn't have are solvents and other VOC emitting compounds, nor does it require special handling, storage or disposal costs. Our film can be cut to fit, which creates none of the waste and mess from liquid run off.
Creates Precision Solutions – 3M Scotch-Weld™ Structural Core Splice Film AF 3002 is coated to an exact thickness to meet requirements for precise tolerances. The dry film allows for even application and consistent bond strength over the bonded area whereas liquid adhesives are difficult to apply evenly when precision is required.
