3Mᵀᴹ PROTECTA® Climbing Harnesses with Sternal D-Ring Product Advisory

As part of 3M Fall Protection’s on-going commitment to delivering high quality safety equipment, we are notifying our customers of the following information related to the 3Mᵀᴹ PROTECTA® Climbing Harnesses with Sternal D-Rings. This Product Advisory is to notify end users of the change in the compliance rating on a limited group (see table below) of 3Mᵀᴹ PROTECTA® Climbing Harnesses from ANSI Z359.11 to OSHA 1926.502 complaint.

This is not a recall and the 3Mᵀᴹ PROTECTA® Climbing Harnesses with Sternal D-Rings remain safe for use.
We are not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the change mentioned above. We have not received any customer complaints regarding this issue, and it was identified through internal testing.

Although products produced from February 2018 to May 2019 are labeled as meeting applicable ANSI standards, during internal testing it was determined that the vertical d-ring may not meet the dynamic requirements of ANSI Z359.11-2014 for the dynamic drop but does meet the requirements of OSHA 1926.502. Product produced after June 2019 are properly marked as being OSHA 1926.502 compliant.
