Highlights
  • MULTI-PURPOSE BONDING: Forms long lasting seals dissimilar materials such as plastics, fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP), sheet molding compound (SMC), aluminum, steel, coated metal and wood for increased design flexibility
  • FLEXIBLE BONDS: Maintains elasticity for shock absorption and long-term joint movement
  • PAINTABLE IN MINUTES: Forms a skin in 60-90 minutes that can be painted on once the sealant is fully cured
  • Weather Resistant: A distinct ability to excel in challenging outdoor industrial, transportation, and construction environments between -40 °F (-40 °C) and 194 °F (90 °C)”
  • EASY TO USE: Single component, moisture-curing sealant fills gaps and simplifies production

3M™ Polyurethane Adhesive Sealant 540 is a moisture-curing sealant that forms flexible, weather-resistant bonds. This single-component adhesive bonds dissimilar materials including plastics, sheet molding compound, aluminum, steel, coated metal, and wood in temperatures ranging from 40 °F (40 °C) to 194 °F (90 °C). Polyurethane sealants perform well in challenging industrial, transportation, and construction settings by creating durable elastomeric bonds that seal against the elements. High tensile strength, weather-resistance, and low hardness allow 3M™ Polyurethane Adhesive Sealant 540 to excel in applications such as exterior panel bonding, retail storefronts, and transportation manufacturing.

3M™ Polyurethane Sealant 540 is a single-component, moisture-curing, polyurethane sealant used to bond a wide variety of materials, including plastics, fiberglass reinforced plastic (FRP), sheet molding compound (SMC), aluminum, steel, coated metal and wood.

Paintable after Skin Forms for Improved Appearance
3M™ Polyurethane Sealant 540 (PDF, 371.52 Kb) offers an alternative to mechanical fasteners and can replace rivets in some applications. It will bond dissimilar substrates and a wide selection of materials. This will perform in temperatures ranging from -40°F/-40°C to 194°F/90°C. Once skin forms (60-90 minutes), the sealant can be painted to improve the final finish.
