Highlights
  • Helps ensure secure installation of expandable firestop and proper closure during fire
  • Durable 28-gauge steel protects firestop material
  • Convenient roll is easily cut to size
  • Bendable tabs let installers anchor penetrations to slabs quickly and permanently
  • Use in conjunction with 3M™ Fire Barrier Wrap Strip FS-195+ or Ultra GS

3M™ Fire Barrier RC-1 Restricting Collar works with 3M™ Fire Barrier Wrap Strip FS-195+ or Ultra GS firestops for through penetrations in wall, floor and floor/ceiling assemblies. Durable 28-gauge steel collar is easily cut to fit the pipe diameter. The collar secures the firestop and provides tabs for anchoring to walls or floor slabs, helping ensure stability for effective firestops.

A Small but Vital Part of an Effective Firestop System
With its small but critical design features, our 3M™ Fire Barrier RC-1 Restricting Collar is integral to successful intumescent firestop installation around penetrations in wall, floor and floor/ceiling assemblies. Quite simply, it’s a crucial component for ensuring that elastomeric and hard char firestop material will properly close openings left by burned non-metallic pipes and other penetrations. In fact, the use of such a collar is required for firestopping plastic pipes larger than 4" (101.6 mm) in diameter. The Fire Barrier RC-1 is ideal for use in conjunction with 3M™ Fire Barrier Wrap Strip FS-195+ or 3M™ Fire Barrier Ultra GS firestops.

Recommended Applications

The Basis for Durable Firestops
Durable 28-gauge steel is thin enough for installers to easily unroll and cut to size around the installed firestop. It is quickly secured into place with a hose clamp or steel tie wire. Notches in its outer edge of the RC-1 Restricting Collar form bendable tabs — installers simply bend them into place and use hardware such as masonry fasteners (sold separately) to anchor them to the floor or ceiling slab. The result is a permanent, fixed firestop that also contributes to the structural stability of the penetration.

The Science of Better Fire Protection from 3M
Since 1925 when one of our lab assistants invented masking tape, 3M has been applying science to life —developing adhesive products and technologies that help entire industries and individual businesses worldwide. The work that began with a single 3M engineer now spans decades and generations. And all of it goes into each of our adhesives, sealants, protective coatings, along with the best ways to use them — including 3M™ Fire Barrier RC-1 Restricting Collar — to improve performance, and to help businesses like yours operate faster, better and more efficiently.
