3M™ Wetordry™ Cloth Roll 281W is an aluminum oxide Wetordry™ roll constructed on a screen cloth backing. Used dry or with water, 3M™ Wetordry™ Cloth Roll 281W enables the user to rinse areas of the workpiece and the roll during use to prevent dust and debris from clogging the points of the abrasive; and reduces air-borne dust, while producing a faster cut at the same time.

Wet Sanding: the Wetordry™ Advantage
3M™ Wetordry™ products are backed with waterproof backing that supports both wet and dry applications. Lighter weight than cloth and smooth rather than textured, the mesh backing is preferable for lighter applications such as finishing and paint prep. At the same time, many such applications produce a significant amount of dust, clogging the abrasive points and creating an inferior work environment. These effects can be minimized by sanding with water, or a coolant to rinse dust and cutting debris away from the workpiece and the abrasive surface.

Used with water, 3M™ Wetordry™ Cloth Roll 281W helps users rinse areas of the workpiece during finishing (PDF, 123.6 Kb). It prevents dust and debris from clogging the abrasive and keeps the abrasive cutting fast. In short — it's like wet and dry sandpaper in a single product. 3M™ Wetordry™ Cloth Roll 281W is ideal on e-coat primer and wood and may also be used dry for finishing metal and gel coats. In the marine industry, it can be used for sanding old finishes, fine feather edging and surface work.

The Benefits of Aluminum Oxide
The secret to a consistent, sharp abrasive is in the mineral. 3M™ Wetordry™ Cloth Roll 281W is made with aluminum oxide mineral, which is a popular choice among industrial professionals because of its fast cut-rate and long life. This mineral makes a tough, durable abrasive that self-fractures to expose fresh cutting edges, whereas traditional natural minerals dull more quickly. Due to its fast cut-rate, hardness and strength, it is widely used in grinding applications, as well as sanding and finishing applications. Aluminum oxide is suitable for a wide variety of materials in both woodworking and metalworking, including ferrous alloys.
