3M™ Double Coated Tape 9828 features a thin film carrier and a medium-firm acrylic adhesive that works well on many plastics and foams. 3M™ Adhesive 340 provides good initial adhesion and holding power to a wide variety of materials including HSE plastics. The 0.5 mil polyester carrier adds dimensional stability and improved handling during slitting and die cutting operations.

Bonds a Range of Materials, Including HSE Plastics and Foams
A thin, consistent alternative to glue, 3M™ Double Coated Tape 9828 can be used for foam, fabric and gasket attachment. This tape offers long-term temperature performance up to 120°F (49°C). A clear .5 mil polyester film carrier between adhesive layers adds dimensional stability to foams and other substrates and provides easier handling during slitting and die-cutting. 3M™ Adhesive 340 is applied to the liner side of the film at 1.5 mils and at 2.0 mils on the face side for effective wet-out. The white 55# densified kraft paper liner is compatible with rotary die-cutting.

Recommended Applications

Double coated film tapes with 3M™ Adhesive 340 are ideal for applications where a combination of high initial adhesion and good shear strength for a wide variety of materials, including many plastics and foams, is required.

What is Double Coated Tape?
In general, double coated tape is composed of a paper, film or tissue carrier that is coated on both sides with pressure sensitive adhesive. The adhesive is protected by a peel-away liner that is removed at the time of application. These tapes can be applied by hand or with a dispenser. Double coated tape dispensers are available in a variety of configurations ranging from manual to fully automatic. Applications for double coated tape are found in electronics, automotive, aerospace, general industrial, and fabrication markets.

Double coated tapes offer a multitude of advantages over mechanical fasteners or liquid glues, including an even regular bond without gaps, reduced risk of corrosion, fast application, more flexible product design and improved appearance.
