Same Day Repairs Why wait hours or days to complete a repair? With Bondo® Wood Filler, you can complete professional looking repairs in less than 30 minutes. The secret to a fast, permanent repair is in the two-part technology. By mixing the filler with the cream hardener (included with the filler), you can sand the wood filler in 15 minutes and stain or paint it in just 25 minutes.
Strength to Restore and Rebuild From the smallest to the largest of
home improvement (PDF, 291 Mb) projects, Bondo® Wood Filler can handle nearly any wood repair — fill minor holes or scratches, or rebuild entire missing wood pieces. It is very easy to mix using the included tube of cream hardener. Also included is a strong technological advantage: when the filler and hardener are mixed, a reaction occurs which allows the filler to chemically bond to the surface for a permanent repair. The two-part wood filler cures quickly, making it easy to spread while adhering it to the surface you are repairing. For more advanced repairs, Bondo® Wood Filler can be applied in layers to rebuild rotted or missing pieces of wood. Unlike slower drying water- or solvent-based wood fillers that cure by evaporation, Bondo® Wood Filler chemically cross links to cure for a faster, more durable repair. As a result, Bondo® Wood Filler is water resistant and will not shrink. This saves money, saves time and helps create professional grade repairs that last.
Bondo® Wood Filler instructions: Step 1: Clean all surfaces with soap and water to remove any dirt, wax, oil, or other contaminants. Allow to dry.
Step 2: Sand the damaged area with 80 grit sandpaper to remove any paint, coatings, and loose or rotted wood. Sand beyond the damaged area as needed. Gently brush the repair area clean of any sanding dust and wipe with a Bondo® Tack Cloth.
Step 3: Optional: treat the area with Bondo® Rotted Wood Restorer to re-harden any remaining rotted wood to create a solid base before filling.
Step 4: Stir the filler gently in the can before using. Knead the included hardener tube. For a 3-inch diameter puddle of filler, squeeze out a 3” long strip of hardener. This is the maximum recommended amount to mix at any given time for optimal application. Mix thoroughly to a uniform color on a clean, non-porous surface. When product is mixed, the working time is 3-4 minutes. Do not add hardener directly into the filler container.
Step 5: Spread an initial thin layer of the mixed filler over the repair area using firm pressure to ensure maximum adhesion. Apply additional layers of filler as needed. Allow filler to cure 20 minutes.
Step 6: Rough shape the filler with 80 grit sandpaper. Finish sand with 180 grit and finer. Featheredge the repair.
Step 7: Prime, paint, or apply stain to the area per the paint or stain manufacturer’s recommendation. Note: if staining, testing in an inconspicuous area is recommended as Bondo® Wood Filler will absorb stain differently than wood.
For best results apply at 45°F (7°C) or above. Do not put mixed filler back in the can. Clean tools with acetone or lacquer thinner. Help line: 1-800-494-3552
