We developed 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesive EC-1458 to resist oil, gasoline and aromatic solvents and fuels. Our elastomer-based adhesive provides unusually strong adhesion to metal, glass, wood, synthetic rubber and many other porous and nonporous surfaces. Our one-part formula is ideal for certain operations where a heavy-bodied oil-resistant adhesive or fuel-resistant sealer is required.

Brush-applied adhesive provides a tough, flexible bond between honeycomb and framework in entry step panels of commuter aircraft
High adhesion to metal, glass, wood, synthetic rubber and many other porous and nonporous surfaces
Ready to Fly
With its heavy-syrup like consistency, 3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesive EC-1458 spreads easily and smoothly for even coating. When applied by brush, one gallon of this amber colored adhesive will cover approximately 200 square feet. It is ideal for applications where a heavy-bodied, oil-resistant adhesive or fuel-resistant adhesive/sealer is needed. This versatile product cures at room temperature or for greater strength and oil resistance it can be heat cured at 300°F (149°C) for 20 minutes. It can also be reactivated with MEK solvent or by applying heat from 250°F to 300°F (121°C to 149°C) to the adhesive surface.

3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Structural Adhesive EC-1458 an ideal solution for adhering and protecting many aircraft components that may be damaged or had their performance diminished by coming in contact with aviation fuel. Any vulnerable component such as those adjacent to refuel/defuel fittings, fuel dump valves, drain ports, access panels, system plumbing and fuel tank vents will be better protected against pre-mature failure caused by exposure to fuel. Scotch-Weld EC-1458 has an unusually high adhesion to metal, glass, wood, synthetic rubber and many other porous and nonporous surfaces. It may be applied by brush or flow applicator depending on the needs of your process.
