3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Elastomeric Coating EC-5816 is a one-part, abrasion and chemical resistant coating designed for the protection of fragile, porous, insulation materials such as polyurethane foam, glass wool, cork, etc., in aerospace manufacturing and maintenance operations. Scotch-Weld EC-5816 is self-extinguishing when applied to flame retardant urethane foam.

Resists oil, gasoline, and aromatic fuels to protect against exposure to fuel
3M™ Scotch-Weld™ Elastomeric Coating EC-5816 is ideal for sealing and unique protection applications. The coating can be designed for normal and high performance applications where harsh chemicals fuel, oils and hydraulic fluids are a factor. We also designed for it to be effective where high temperature and erosion resistant properties are required. The coatings are ideal for applying to metals, plastics and composite surfaces. In addition to metals and composites, cured Scotch-Weld EC-5816 is self-extinguishing when applied to flame retardant urethane foam.

When exposed for 300 hours at 300°F (149°C) 3M Scotch-Weld™ EC-5816 will discolor but the film retains its flexibility in high and low temperatures, even a temperature as low as -65°F (-54°C). It also resists salt spray and weathering to protect parts wherever aircraft may fly.

Scotch-Weld EC-5816 dries to a tack free condition in approximately 30 minutes to keep processes moving forward. The coating should dry completely in a minimum of 48 hours prior to placing it in service. Accelerated drying at 160°F (71°C) for 2 hours is will help remove residual solvent, which greatly helps to avert blistering if the coating is exposed to 200-300°F (93.3-149°C) operational temperatures.
