Install 3M Home Window Films and you may qualify for federal and state energy tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act. Even without the tax credits, these energy-saving films can help you lower your energy costs by reducing heat gain from the sun.
The IRS allows homeowners to take a tax credit of up to 30% of the cost (not including labor) of window film installed in their primary residence, with an annual maximum credit of $600. A tax credit is a direct dollar-for-dollar reduction in the amount of taxes you must pay.
To qualify for the credit, the window film must be installed after January 1, 2023, and indicated as eligible on the Manufacturer’s Certification. Consult a tax professional for more information and the included IRS link.
The ENERGY STAR climate zone map shows how to select the right window films by dividing the U.S. into zones with specific performance criteria for windows. To choose the right window film, determine your climate zone using the map, and then select a film that helps your windows meet the U-Factor (insulation) and Solar Heat Gain Coefficient (SHGC) (heat blocking) requirements for that zone.
