3M™ Nextel™ Chopped Fiber 312 is made from 3M™ Nextel™ Fibers. These chopped fibers are used as a reinforcement or filler material in high-stress, high-temperature applications, most notably for their role in ceramic underbody tiles which protect NASA space shuttles. These fibers are commonly chopped to 1/8", 1/4" and 1/2" lengths but are also available in custom lengths upon request.
3M™ Nextel™ Chopped Fiber 312 is used as a reinforcement or filler material for high-temperature coating purposes such as thermal barrier coating (TBC). Notably, this product has been used as an additive for ceramic underbody tiles used to protect NASA space shuttles. Needless to say, you’d be hard pressed to find a more demanding application.
