3M Scott Safety Firefighters Fall Protection

Carolina Firefighter EMS Journal Spotlight – Fall Protection: Learning from Tragedies

Firefighters risk their lives every day to help others. But while many people think of fire, fumes, smoke, chemical exposure, and explosions being the main dangers, firefighters also need to think about the risk of falling from collapsing structures during a fire.

Learn more about these situations and steps firefighters can take to protect themselves by reading the article ‘Fall Protection: Learning from Tragedies’ that was published in the Winter 2021 edition of the Carolina Firefighter EMS Journal.

In this article, Raymond Mann, QSSP, recounts how two fatal falls brought a tragic end to the summer of 2021 for fire departments on opposite sides of the U.S. He also explains the importance of the International Safety Equipment Association (ISEA), which has long been concerned about ensuring that every workplace has access to proper fall-protection equipment.

Raymond Mann, QSSP is a former Maryland volunteer firefighter from Concord, North Carolina. He is 3M Personal Safety Division’s Global Senior Specialist Application Engineer and ISEA’s Fall Protection Product Group Chair.
