What’s inside 3M™ PIM Reduction Kit 1300?

Reducing conducted PIM – passive intermodulation caused by induced currents reaching a non-linear junction – is surprisingly easy, with the right tools. 3M™ PIM Reduction Kit 1300 is an easy-to-use, all-in-one solution that can help reduce conducted PIM and improve the signal-to-noise ratio of your 5G network.

Let’s open up 3M™ PIM Reduction Kit 1300 and see what’s inside:

You’ll see three major components:

A stack of gray strips of 3M External PIM Absorber 1000

1) 64 strips of 3M™ External PIM Absorber 1000
These 3”x11” gray strips are made of an innovative composite material developed by 3M. They include magnetic fillers that help absorb PIM when applied to the surface of a conducting structural element, such as an antenna mast. In fact, when correctly applied, these strips can help reduce PIM-inducing currents throughout the structure – not just in the area where you place them.

A roll of black Scotch Linerless Rubber Splicing Tape 130C on a white background

2)5 rolls of Scotch® Linerless Rubber Splicing Tape 130C
This black tape provides environmental protection to the PIM absorber strips, helping them stay dry, secure, virtually protected against UV radiation, and closely fitted to the structure’s surface for maximum effectiveness in a wide range of challenging weather conditions. The kit comes with 5 rolls, each 2”x30’.

A stack of labels reading "Do Not Remove"

3) 60 “Do Not Remove” labels
Don’t let your hard work go to waste. These 60 labels help remind future technicians not to remove the tape during future maintenance.

And that’s it!

If you are missing any components, contact your distributor for a replacement. These components can be used on a single site or multiple smaller sites, depending on the size of the site and the PIM reduction needed.

What other tools do I need?
No additional specialized tools are required to install 3M™ PIM Reduction Kit 1300 on an antenna site. However, you may wish to consider:

  • Solvent cleaning wipes, to help make sure that the surface is free of oils and debris prior to applying the kit. The better the contact between the surface, absorber, and tape, the better the results.
  • Scissors, to cleanly cut the tape without stretching it.
