3M™ PTFE Film Tape 5498 provides an exceptionally slick surface when applied and resists curling during unwind. Additionally, this tape has a brown 2.0 mil PTFE extruded backing and rubber adhesive, giving it broad temperature compatibility with a range of use from 40°F-350°F (4°C-177°C). Recommended applications Lining of composite bonding tool frames where there is concern of silicone contamination Masking and bundling of composite parts prior to bonding operations where there is concern of silicone contamination Autoclave operations Broad Temperature Compatibility Our 3M PTFE Film Tape 5498 offers excellent temperature compatibility and can be used in temperatures ranging from 40°F-350°F (4°C-177°C). The tape’s composition makes it great for autoclave and composite bonding as well as lay flat applications where it resists curling. The extruded PTFE film tape lies flatter than typical skived PTFE film tapes and it can also withstand autoclave cycles for several hours at temperatures up to 350° F (176°C) and 400°F (204°C) for shorter periods. Additionally the 3M PTFE Film Tape 5498 also reduces friction, preventing squeaks and rattles.
