    Nicole Vars McCullough, PhD, CIH Global Technical Services & Regulatory/Application Engineering Manager

    Nikki Vars McCullough is the Global Technical Service and Regulatory Manager for the Personal Safety Division at 3M. She has a doctorate in Industrial Hygiene and is a CIH. Nikki manages the scholarship program, and as a previous 3M scholarship winner she will be hosting the 30th Scholarship reception. Throughout the week you will find Nikki in the 3M booth as well as attending technical sessions.

    Eric Fallon, Au.D, LTC (Ret), CCC-A Doctor of Audiology Technical Service Specialist - Hearing Conservation
    Dr. Eric Fallon currently works for 3M Corporation as a Hearing Specialist in Technical Service. Having spent 25 years in the military as an infantryman, artilleryman and audiologists, Eric has managed hearing conservation programs as large as 48,000 personnel. He has multiple deployments to both Iraq and Afghanistan and has seen firsthand the challenges of communicating in noisy environments. He routinely works with the military community in solving tactical communication issues and is broadening that interest to the industrial workplace. Eric holds a Doctorate degree in Audiology, and a Certificate of Clinical Competency in Audiology with the American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) and is a Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation Course (CAOHC) Director. Eric is a member of the Executive Board for the National Hearing Conservation Association (NHCA) and serves as the NHCA voting member of the ASA Standards Committee.

    David Stein, CIH Technical Service Specialist

    David Stein is a certified industrial hygienist with 33 years of experience in the health and safety profession. He is currently a Technical Service Specialist with 3M’s Personal Safety Products Division. His focus is on supporting the development and use of technologies to enhance the health and safety work environment. Dave’s previous experience includes providing field services in the hazardous waste industry, general manufacturing facilities and electronics assembly operations. He has also worked as an OSHA compliance officer and in corporate governance. Dave holds a B.A. degree in biology from Southwest Baptist University and a Masters in industrial hygiene from Central Missouri State University.

    Kathy Thompson, CIH Technical Education and Training Specialist
    Kathy Thompson has been with the 3M Company for 21 years working in industrial hygiene, chemical product stewardship and technical service roles. Prior to this, Kathy was employed for 13 years in healthcare and other manufacturing settings performing laboratory analysis, infection control and industrial hygiene services. She is a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) and Medical Technologist (MT) and holds a Master's in Public Health (Environmental Health) as well as an MS in Chemistry. In her current position, Kathy is the Technical Education and Training Specialist for the Personal Safety Division of 3M. Her national AIHA activities have included chairing the Stewardship and Sustainability Committee and teaching several PDCs on the industrial hygiene implications of disinfection for infection prevention.

    Karen Cuta, CIH Technical Service Manager

    Karen Cuta is a Certified Industrial Hygienist with 19 years of professional experience and 15 years with the 3M Personal Safety Division. She has experience as a Health, Safety and Environmental Coordinator in a manufacturing environment and as a Workers Compensation, Loss Control Specialist. Her professional experiences include field research, project management, product development, customer support, and technical management. Currently the Technical Service Manager for 3M hearing protection solutions, technical training and education, and the Technical Helpline.

    Ted Madison, M.A., CCC-A Technical Service Specialist
    Ted Madison is an audiologist in St Paul MN, working as a Technical Service Specialist for the 3M Personal Safety Division, providing technical support, education and training in hearing loss prevention and hearing protection. He is the Chair of the Publications Committee of the Council for Accreditation in Occupational Hearing Conservation (CAOHC) and is a CAOHC-certified course director at the Midwest Center for Occupational Health and Safety at the University of Minnesota.

    Scott Shinn is a Certified Industrial Hygienist and Technical Service Specialist with 3M’s Personal Safety Division. With more than 25 years of health and safety program management experience in the consulting, chemical manufacturing, and personal protective equipment manufacturing industries, Scott has strong knowledge of health and safety compliance requirements as well as diverse practical experience in health and safety program management. For the past ten years Scott has supported the development, selection and use of 3M’s personal protective equipment, with current primary focus on support of Global Key Accounts and pharmaceutical markets.

    Jessica Hauge, MPH, CIH, CSP Technical Service Engineer
    Jessica Hauge is a Technical Service Engineer for 3M’s Personal Safety Division, where she helps design respirators and provides technical support and training to respirator wearers, assigners, and fit testers. Prior to joining 3M’s Personal Safety Division, Ms. Hauge worked as an industrial hygienist with 3M Corporate Industrial Hygiene, managing projects related to conducting hazard evaluations, field exposure assessments, hazard characterization, and PPE assignment and fit testing. Ms. Hauge currently serves as Chair of the AIHA Respiratory Protection Committee and recently completed her term on the board of the Upper Midwest Section of the AIHA.

    Craig E. Colton, CIH Regulatory Affairs
    Craig E. Colton is a certified industrial hygienist in the Regulatory Affairs group of the 3M Personal Safety Division with 35 plus years of experience specializing in respiratory protection. He is a past chair of the AIHA Respiratory Protection Committee and Americas’ Section of the International Society for Respiratory Protection (1998-2000). Currently he is the chair of the ISRP Americas’ section. He is a current member of ANSI Z88 Committee on respiratory protection. He is a past member of ANSI Z88.2 (2015) subcommittee on respiratory protection and ANSI Z88.10 (2010) subcommittee on fit testing. He is also a member of the ISO committee developing international respiratory protection standards (TC94 SC15). He has authored several articles and book chapters on respiratory protection.

Currently, Julie is a Global Marketing Manager in 3M’s Personal Safety Division’s Hearing Solutions business. Prior to her current role, she held various managerial positions in Training, Quality, Regulatory, Technical Services, and Respiratory Protection Marketing.

    Laurie Wells, Au.D. Senior Regulatory Affairs Specialist
    Laurie Wells is a Senior Regulatory Affairs Specialist for 3M Personal Safety Division, where she supports standards writing and regulatory activity pertaining to hearing protection globally. Her interest in hearing loss prevention was sparked when she was a clinical audiologist at the University of Northern Colorado where she managed the UNC hearing conservation services. This, including driving the “semi-mobile” audiology clinic. Through her contacts made through the National Hearing Conservation Association, she became immersed and committed to the field of occupational audiology. Dr. Wells is a certified Professional Supervisor of the Audiometric Monitoring Programs© and a member of the Acoustical Society of America, American Academy of Audiology, American Industrial Hygiene Association, American Speech-Language-Hearing Association, and National Hearing Conservation Association.

    Erik Johnson, CIH Technical Service Specialist

    Erik Johnson is a Technical Service Specialist with the Personal Safety Division of 3M Company. He has worked for the past 20+ years with this Division. His current responsibilities include respirator development and stewardship, technical writing, and public speaking. Previously his focus was technical service for the Asia/Pacific region. Erik can be found in the 3M booth answering questions about the new 3M 6000i series Organic Vapor Respirator Cartridges with Service Life Indicator.

30th Annual 3M PSD Occupational Health and Safety Scholarship

Helping to recognize the contributions and importance of proper safety and health practices and training in the workplace

    3M’s Personal Safety Division (PSD) is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the 3M PSD Occupational Health and Safety Scholarship Program. This program signifies PSD’s support of quality education and training in the occupational health and safety / industrial hygiene profession. The program is designed to help recognize the contributions and importance of proper safety and health practices and training in the workplace. 3M strongly believes that investment in students of occupational health and safety will help strengthen the field and profession for many years to come.

    Over the last 30 years 3M has awarded over 100 scholarships to selected students pursuing graduate-level education in Occupational Health or Safety / Industrial Hygiene in the US or Canada. In addition to the scholarships, 3M supports travel to attend the American Industrial Hygiene Association Conference and Exposition (AIHce). The AIHce was selected as the venue to award the scholarships because of the American Industrial Hygiene Associations (AIHA) strong support for students and young career professionals. https://www.aiha.org/get-involved/students-young-professionals/Pages/default.aspx

    The 3M scholarship recipients have represented approximately 30 educational institutions in the US and Canada. 3M has recognized students who are studying in the US and Canada from the US and Canada as well as from around the world including China, Nigeria and Mongolia. 3M’s scholarship recipients now work in a variety of fields across occupational health and safety including occupational health and safety program management, research, teaching, toxicology, regulatory, and related fields including sales of OHS related products. Past recipients work in a wide variety of segments including oil and gas, construction, pharmaceuticals, aerospace, academia, government, general manufacturing and energy. The work of past recipients spans from a community health focus to implementing global programs, and they work in the US but also across the world in Qatar, Mongolia, Switzerland and conducting research in China.

    Colleen is from Boulder Colorado and just finished her undergraduate studies in environmental health. This is her first semester in graduate school for ergonomics. She likes how ergonomics combines her interests in anatomy and human movement.

    Yuan Shao

    Yuan is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in the Division of Environmental Health Sciences, University of Minnesota School of Public Health. His research interests include occupational exposure and risk assessment, developing, evaluating and applying exposure models, and occupational epidemiology.

    Michael A. Manning

    Michael is currently a MPH student at the University of Michigan studying industrial hygiene. This summer he will be interning at General Motors in Arlington, TX.
