Hawaii

Hawaii doesn’t have a law/ policy & never has proposed one. However, it’s important to note that the Hawaii Department of Transportation receives all its goods from suppliers in California, so it’s very rare that a lead wheel weight will be used in Hawaii.

Prohibits the manufacture, sale or installation of lead wheel weights.

The restriction states that anyone replacing or balancing wheels must replace lead wheel weights with environmentally preferred weights.

Pending – Would prohibit the use of lead wheel weights during the servicing, repair or maintenance of a vehicle.

Minnesota

The new law includes a ban on the installation, sale & distribution of lead & mercury-based wheel balance weights & features a compliance date of 1/1/2016. The law also requires proper recycling of all lead & mercury weights that are removed from vehicles.
