High performance polyolefins, such as LLDPE and mLLDPE, provide exceptional film properties; however, they can also be difficult to process. Common issues include melt fracture (also known as sharkskin), die build-up, gel formation and surface defects. 3M™ Dynamar™ Polymer Processing Additives (PPAs) such as FX 9614, are proven to be an effective solution for the majority of these processing problems.
It Can Take the Heat
Dynamar polymer processing additive FX 9614 delivers excellent melt fracture elimination under high temperature extrusion conditions. It can also improve throughput and reduce surface imperfections at very low use levels. With trends toward higher throughput rates and higher strength resins, the stress on the extruded polymer melt is increased. The stress on the emerging polymer melt can cause the surface to rupture, creating surface imperfections known as melt fracture.
Dynamar PPAs reduce the stress at the die by continuously forming a thin, low surface energy coating within the extrusion die. This results in elimination of melt fracture and allows for increased throughput without affecting the surface properties of the film. You get smooth film, no sharkskin and an excellent finished product.
