Convolute Wheels: Tips for Optimum Use
The Scotch-Brite™ Flat Part Deburring Wheel is a convolute wheel — engineered by wrapping abrasive material around a fiberglass core. Convolute wheels differ from other types of wheels in the sense that they must be run in the direction of the arrow imprinted on their side. Scotch-Brite™ Flat Part Deburring Wheel may be used on feed-through machines and automated equipment.

Mineral and Grade Combinations
We engineer the Scotch-Brite™ Flat Part Deburring Wheel by combining mineral and non-woven nylon fibers with resin to create an open web. Operators can choose between various mineral and grade combinations. Aluminum oxide is available in very fine (VFN) and medium (MED) grades, and silicon carbide is available in extra coarse (XCS) grade. Typically, operators choose a softer mineral and finer grade when less aggressive cut and finer finish are desirable. Conversely, a sharper mineral and coarser grade will cut more aggressively. Fabricated steel parts are often pre-programmed to meet close tolerances, so maintaining part geometry is paramount. Pairing sharp-cutting mineral with springy, non-woven fibers helps prevent the abrasive from severely altering or gouging the workpiece.

The Many Benefits of Open Web Abrasives
Nonwoven technology makes our Scotch-Brite™ industrial abrasives unique. A combination of fiber strands, resin, and abrasive mineral forms a thick, open web. The spring-like nature of the fibers responds to contours and effectively removes unwanted burrs, soils, and contaminants while maintaining the geometry of the workpiece, which in turn reduces rework and boosts productivity.

Gaps in the web allow swarf to escape, so debris does not clog the mineral. Fibers in the web continually break down with use to reveal fresh mineral for exceptional consistency, superior cut performance, and extremely long service life. Scotch-Brite™ products not only enhance productivity, but also increase operator safety by reducing the need for cleaning chemicals and pastes, and replacing wire brushes that can break off and cause injury. From aesthetic finishing to weld blending, deburring, and more, Scotch-Brite™abrasives work fast and deliver consistent results, part after part.
