Highlights
  • Made of terpolymer gumstock without incorporated curatives, allowing compounders to create their own cure package
  • Improved retention of elongation after long-term heat aging, compared with conventional 66% fluorine fluoropolymers
  • 3M™ Dyneon™ Fluoroelastomer FT 2481 is amine or bisphenol curable and can be used in compression molding
  • Improved acid resistance, and resistance to volume swell by organic solvents, compared with conventional 66% fluorine fluoropolymers

3M™ Dyneon™ Fluoroelastomer FT 2481 is composed of terpolymer of vinylidene fluoride, hexafluoropropylene, and tetrafluoroethylene; it is well-suited for compression molding operations. With high fluorine content, Dyneon fluoroelastomer FT 2481 offers improved acid resistance, and resistance to volume swell by organic solvents, compared with conventional 66% fluorine fluoropolymers.

Improved Resistance to Acid and Volume Swell
3M™ Dyneon™ Fluoroelastomer FT 2481 is a terpolymer gumstock without incorporated curatives. It can be compounded using standard water cooled internal mixers or two-roll mills with standard fillers and ingredients utilized in typical fluoroelastomer formulations. The dry ingredients should be blended before adding to the masticated gum. For best results, Dyneon fluoroelastomer FT 2481 should be banded on the mill several minutes prior to adding the blended dry ingredients. Additionally, Dyneon fluoroelastomer FT 2481 offers improved retention of elongation after long-term heat aging, compared with conventional 66% fluorine fluoropolymers. Once mixed, the compounded stocks have good scorch resistance and storage stability. Notably, FT 2481 also provides improved acid resistance, and resistance to volume swell by organic solvents, compared with conventional 66% fluorine fluoropolymers.

The Right Size to Fit the Job
This product is sold in different sizes, so compounders and formulators can pick the right size for the job. Dyneon fluoroelastomer FT 2481 is packaged in milled slab form (as opposed to unmilled forms like crumb) and is available in a returnable bulk shipping container system for 1,320 Ibs (600 kg) of material. The bulk container system is comprised of 48 individual polyethylene bags containing 27.5 Ibs (12.5 kg) of product. Smaller quantities are available in 55.1 Ibs (25.0 kg) boxes.
