Highlights
  • Developed for bonding automotive structures and substructures
  • Excellent for galvanized and phosphate steel or aluminum bonding
  • Induction pre-cure eliminates the need for pre-cure ovens commonly used for aluminum parts
  • 2K adhesives provide stable pre-cure options to avoid distortion
  • Store bonded substructures for several months before final cure for more flexible process window
  • Controlled reactivity balances 30-minute open time and proper post-induction lock-up
  • Two-part epoxy adhesive allows for structures as tough as those made from one-part adhesives
  • Controlled reactivity balances 30 minute open time and proper post-induction panel lock-up

3M™ Structural Adhesive SA9822 is a two-part epoxy adhesive formulated for steel or aluminum bonding applications in automotive chassis and primary structures, as well as battery to chassis integrated assemblies. This 2K adhesive can offer the same mechanical performance of a 1K adhesive, even on oily metal. Inducted adhesive allows for storage of bonded substructures for up to two months before curing.

A two-part structural adhesive for greater design flexibility

This two-part epoxy adhesive gives the bond strength of a one-part adhesive and exceeds the stiffness, strength and impact performance of premium two-part structural adhesives. 3M™ Structural Adhesive SA9822 is induction cured to handling strength and allows for carbon fiber and other components to be effectively bonded to metals such as aluminum without distortion or resin degradation. The adhesive features controlled reactivity for a longer work time (approximately 30 minutes) and proper lock-up after induction heating for accelerated curing.

An adhesive for enabling lightweight design

As automotive OEMs are using more and more lightweight materials such as aluminum and thin steel, chassis and primary structure assemblies become more complex. The need for mixed material joints is growing, as well as improved stiffness without sacrificing reliable manufacturing processes.

3M™ Structural Adhesive SA9822 eliminates the expense of pre-cure associated with 1K solutions on aluminum parts and helps significantly reduce quality defects during production. It can be precured with induction to prevent parts from moving during transport or during cure. This helps minimize distortion, increases design flexibility and reduces cycle time.

An adhesive for improved production efficiency

3M™ Structural Adhesive SA9822 may be stored up to two months after induction– allowing much greater flexibility during production. The non-sag, non-slump formula delivers excellent gap-filling properties and can be applied either robotically or manually for low-volume or premium higher-volume OEMs.
