3M™ Clinpro™ 5000 1.1% Sodium Fluoride Anti-Cavity Toothpaste, 12000 Series

Many patients are at an increased risk of getting tooth decay. For example, if you have had a recent filling, wear orthodontic braces, or use certain medicines that may cause dry mouth, you are at increased risk for cavities. Clinpro 5000 is a prescription toothpaste containing, more than 4 times the fluoride found in over-the-counter toothpastes. This extra fluoride provides extra protection to the teeth.

The tri-calcium phosphate in Clinpro 5000 toothpaste is exclusive to 3M; it is coated to release calcium and phosphate when you brush your teeth. The calcium and phosphate in Clinpro 5000 toothpaste supplements the calcium and phosphate normally found in teeth and saliva to make sure it is available to react with the fluoride when and where you need it, at the tooth’s surface. The fluoride is attracted to the calcium and phosphate. All three ingredients come together to help build strong tooth mineral.

You should only use a pea-sized amount with each brushing. If used in this way, the tube should last about 6 months.

Clinpro 5000 toothpaste contains a higher level of fluoride than regular, over-the-counter toothpastes. This high level of fluoride makes Clinpro 5000 toothpaste a regulated medication that is only available by prescription. Many dentists dispense this product directly out of their office. Clinpro 5000 toothpaste is used once a day in place of your regular toothpaste to help prevent tooth decay. Discuss your level of risk for cavities with your dentist. Follow their recommendation on how long to continue using Clinpro 5000 toothpaste.

As with all sodium fluoride toothpastes, adults should avoid rinsing for 30 minutes after brushing with their teeth. This keeps the high level of fluoride on your teeth for the best results. Children between the ages of 6-16 years old should brush, spit, and rinse when using Clinpro 5000 toothpaste.
