SF₆, used in gas-insulated power equipment and lines, has a global warming potential 23,500 times that of CO₂ when compared over a 100-year period. Tests utilizing a gas mixture with Novec insulating gases demonstrate greenhouse gas reductions of more than 99% in on-grid commercial equipment versus equipment utilizing SF₆.

Gas-insulated power infrastructure installed on the grid, including gas-insulated lines and gas-insulated switchgear, have proven the performance of Novec Insulating Gases with some of the earliest installations going back as far as 2015.
