3M STEP

Science Training Encouragement Program

Applications for STEP are accepted annually in October. Apply by completing the STEP application form and sending it to STEP!

3M STEP is a partnership between 3M and the Saint Paul Public School District. STEP provides high school juniors and seniors of diverse backgrounds the opportunity to participate in the process of scientific discovery at one of the world’s leading corporations. Through mentoring by 3M volunteers, paid classroom instruction and summer employment in a 3M laboratory, STEP students will increase job skills, gain insight into scientific careers, and enhance their personal development.

    How it works

The 3M STEP program places students in the lab alongside 3M scientists. These students must complete a minimum of 40 days participating in a full-time summer job, 9 consecutive hours Monday thru Friday between the hours of 6AM and 6PM during the summer months June – August.

3M STEP is open to high school juniors and seniors within the St. Paul Public School District. Students apply for the program in the fall and are notified of acceptance in December.
