3Mers and alumni volunteer their time, talents and expertise to improve lives in their communities. Thousands of 3Mers participate through 3Mgives volunteer programs, mentoring students and youth, serving on nonprofit boards and helping people in need around the world.
For more than 30 years, we have honored our people who positively impact the lives of others in extraordinary ways. The 3Mgives Volunteer Award annually honors exceptional service leaders globally.
Recognizing the important role of volunteers in strengthening our communities, we encourage 3M employees and retirees to get involved. Our volunteer portal, My 3Mgives, makes it easy to find opportunities and register for the 3M Volunteer Match program.

3M Global Volunteer Day
For the fifth year, 3M Global Volunteer Day brought 3M employees around the world together to make all of our moments matter for collective impact internationally. For example, 3M United Kingdom volunteers completed conservation and beautification projects for local nonprofits and schools. Pictured is a team that cleared overgrown vegetation to create a pathway at Mountfields Lodge Primary School – turning an area that was previously inaccessible into an outdoor learning space for students.
3M Legal Affairs strongly supports pro bono service as a unique community service opportunity for all legal professionals. By leveraging skills and experience, 3M Legal Affairs helps strengthen both the community and the justice system.
For 24 years, 3M volunteers have stuffed and distributed new school supplies for Saint Paul Public School students. In 2017, hundreds of 3M volunteers gathered at Kids In Need in Roseville, Minn., to pack backpacks for more than 17,000 students at 36 schools. Every student in those schools received tools needed for a successful year.
3M Austin, Texas provides volunteers and support for Girlstart, a year-round suite of STEM education programs for K-12 girls.
At 3M, we believe in the power of our people to help solve some of the world’s greatest challenges. Through our skills-based service program, 3M Impact, teams of employees have an opportunity to travel to a different country, where they spend two immersive weeks collaborating with a local nonprofit organization, social enterprise or government agency to contribute to a solution for a pressing social or environmental issue.
