High performance bonding ensures seals stay sealed.
In the harsh, hot environments typical in the petrochemical, offshore production and automotive industries, O-ring mechanical gaskets made from 3M™ Dyneon™ Fluoropolymers are excellent sealing solutions.
Sealing under high pressure, or in harsh conditions like a car engine, calls for a bonded seal. Use 3M Dyneon fluoropolymers for a seal that will hold in demanding applications.
The purpose of the air intake manifold is to draw and funnel air to the engine; whereas the purpose of the gasket is to seal the gap between the manifold and the cylinder head - in an environment where the pressure and temperature are constantly changing. Part failure means higher emissions, poor fuel economy, and reduced engine performance. 3M™ Dyneon™ Fluoroelastomers play an important role in improving gasket performance to meet today's challenging industry standards.

This multi-layer steel gasket seals the cylinder head surface to the engine block, preventing leakage of engine oil or coolant into the cylinders as well as external leaks. The seal must withstand intense combustion pressure, searing temperatures, heated engine coolant and oil. Consequences of the cylinder head gasket failing range from reduced power to severe engine damage. Dyneon fluoropolymers help to avoid such problems due to their excellent resistance to engine oils and coolants even at elevated temperatures.

Expanded sealants made of PTFE with a micro fibrillated internal structure have excellent stability and are often used in flange sealing applications. This structure turns ordinary PTFE into a dimensionally strong, creep-resistant gasket material. The joint sealant is soft and conforms to worn or uneven surfaces. A melt adhesive strip holds the sealant in place during assembly in the shop or field.

Flat static seals are used in many different flange applications. PTFE, PTFE Compounds or Fluoroelastomers are ideal in extremely demanding environments, thanks to their excellent chemical resistance, broad temperature range, low vapor permeability, inertness and long-life product durability. They are used extensively in the chemical and petrochemical industry as well as in food and beverage, and pharmaceutical applications.
