3M™ Silicon Carbide Thermocouple Protection Tubes are designed for extreme environments. Our tubes are made of 3M™ Silicon Carbide Grade F (SSiC), which exhibits excellent performance under corrosive and abrasive conditions at very high temperatures. 3M silicon carbide thermocouple protection tubes provide both gas impermeability and high purity of > 98% SiC at the same time.
Exceptional Performance Where Harsh Conditions Exist
Typical applications include furnaces, combustion chambers, crucibles, casting implements and desulfurization units. Our tubes excel in harsh environments because they withstand extreme temperatures up to 1,600°C in oxidizing atmospheres and 2,000°C under protective gas/vacuum. The tubes also offer fast response due to high thermal conductivity and good thermal shock behavior. The hardness of our silicon carbide delivers excellent corrosion resistance against aggressive media and high abrasion and erosion resistance.
Performance Standards of 3M™ Silicon Carbide Grade F
Good chemical resistance, low specific density, high hardness and wear resistance, outstanding thermal conductivity properties and resistance to fluctuations in temperature. 3M silicon carbide grade F combines all these specific advantages of sintered silicon carbide, particularly for bearings and seals for use in pumps.
