- Manufactured on a continuous mill for optimal particle size consistency
- Consistent particle size provides uniform coverage in difficult investment castings
- Optimized slurry flow characteristics result in improved shell build in slots and holes
- Exceptional shell strength under a variety of shell conditions
- Usable at a wide range of slurry viscosities with consistent shell build
- Lower shell weight results in lower shell costs
3M™ Fused Silica Advanced Shell System WDS2 (wide distribution slurry) was specifically designed to solve positive metal scrap issues and reduce shell cracks, replacing a 120-shell slurry in investment casting backup slurries. It has excellent flow characteristics, resulting in uniform shell build – especially around the corners and in difficult-to-invest part geometries.
Specially designed, high-performance flour blend used for investment casting backup slurries
Optimized for Better Slot and Hole Coverage
3M™ Fused Silica Advanced Shell System WDS2 is a specially designed, high-performance flour blend used for investment casting backup slurries. Its shell build provides uniform coverage of corners and edges while still addressing the flow needed to fill slots and holes in difficult investment castings. Thanks to optimized corner build, the total number of dips is reduced and you can achieve a lighter-weight shell with an even shell thickness.
3M fused silica advanced shell system WDS2 boasts high strength and high load-bearing capability in the autoclave condition, as well as during pouring.
A Pure Product
Our revolutionary furnace design helps prevent the raw silica sand from becoming contaminated during processing — resulting in a finished product that is 99.7% pure, while increasing productivity tenfold over conventional furnaces. Because each foundry has different requirements, 3M fused silica advanced shell system WDS2 is engineered with built-in flexibility, and the slurry can be adjusted for specific application needs.
