3M™ Dyneon™ Fluoroelastomer FLS 5841 is composed of terpolymer of vinylidene fluoride, hexafluoropropylene, and tetrafluoroethylene; it is well-suited for compression molding operations. With a high fluorine content of 70.1%, Dyneon fluoroelastomer FLS 5841 offers improved acid resistance, and resistance to volume swell by organic solvents, compared with conventional 66% fluorine fluoropolymers.
Improved Resistance to Acid and Volume Swell
3M™ Dyneon™ Fluoroelastomer FLS 5841 is a terpolymer gumstock without incorporated curatives. It is designed to be used with 3M™ Dyneon™ Fluoroelastomer MB 5840 in a 50:50 ratio. It can be compounded using standard water cooled internal mixers or two-roll mills with standard fillers and ingredients utilized in typical fluoroelastomer formulations. The dry ingredients should be blended before adding to the masticated gum. For best results, Dyneon fluoroelastomer FLS 5841 should be banded on the mill several minutes prior to adding the blended dry ingredients. Once mixed, the compounded stocks have good scorch resistance and storage stability. Notably, FLS 5841 also provides improved acid resistance, and resistance to volume swell by organic solvents, compared with conventional 66% fluorine fluoropolymers.
The Right Size to Fit the Job This product is sold in different sizes, so compounders and formulators can pick the right size for the job. Dyneon fluoroelastomer FLS 5841 is packaged in crumb form and is available in a returnable bulk shipping container system for 1,320 Ibs (600 kg) of material. The bulk container system is comprised of 48 individual polyethylene bags containing 27.5 Ibs (12.5 kg) of product. Smaller quantities are available in 55.1 Ibs (25.0 kg) boxes.
