3M Impact: Skills-Based Service Program
Improving access and education around sanitation in developing economies. Increasing traffic safety in megacities. Reducing the STEM achievement gap for students around the world.
For some people, these are insurmountable problems. For others, they are challenges waiting to be tackled – because with creativity, collaboration and a shared sense of purpose, no problem is unsolvable. This solutions-based mindset lies at the heart of 3M’s culture and inspired our global pro bono program that empowers 3Mers to do what they do best – make an impact.

How it works
Through our 3M Impact program, conducted in partnership with PYXERA Global, diverse teams of 3Mers travel to communities around the world. There, they spend two immersive weeks collaborating with a local nonprofit organization, social enterprise, or government agency to contribute to a solution for a pressing social or environmental issue.
Projects are designed to make a positive economic or social impact on the local organization and community while providing an opportunity for participants to strengthen leadership skills, develop market insights, and spur innovative thinking. 3Mers globally are encouraged to apply, and are selected based on the skill sets needed to support community partners in accomplishing their project goals.
Before and after their time on location, 3M Impact teams collaborate to create action plans that enable their partner organization to achieve long-lasting change.No matter the location, whatever the challenge, the 3Mers who participate share their talents and expertise to help make a difference.
