From disposable paper towels to reusable dish wipes, there are lots of cleaning products that keep your home and the environment clean. But did you know tequila could also make an impact?

Agave—the plant used to make tequila—also serves as a recycled, biodegradable solution, making up 50% of the scrubbing fibers in Scotch-Brite® Greener Clean Scrub Sponges.

The process of turning agave into tequila begins with smashing the agave plant to release the nectar, then fermenting it to make tequila. But after removing the juice, the leftover fibers are often unused. When Mexican fiber supplier Sol y Agave de Arandas began turning the agave leftovers into raw material for products like our Greener Clean Scrub Sponges, we worked with them to develop an even greener solution.

Together, we improved the Scotch-Brite® Scrub Sponges using agave fibers and other recycled materials, resulting in powerful sponges. Using fibers from agave plants means using a raw material that would have otherwise gone to waste, which helps reduce landfill usage too.

We’re always looking for creative ways to improve our products and the way we make them. And with Scotch-Brite® Scrub Sponges, we’re helping make your world a little more sustainable.
