A new emerging pathogen Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) has been confirmed and been linked to several illnesses in recent months. Please reference the 3M technical bulletin titled “Novel Coronavirus Outbreak in China (PDF, 81.98 KB)”, which was published by our 3M Personal Safety Division, that details available information as of January 22, 2020 about the Coronavirus (2019-nCoV).

Outbreaks of a new virus, such as Coronavirus (2019-nCoV), are of heightened concern to 3M and we want to keep you informed so you are best equipped with the knowledge that you can help protect yourselves, customers, and our community. The risk from outbreaks depends on the characteristics of the pathogen, including whether and how well it can spread, illness effects on individuals and the population, and measures that can be taken to help control the impact of the pathogen (disinfectants to vaccines). Unfortunately, the details in regards to Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) are still new and much more due diligence from the likes of the Center for Disease Control (CDC) and the US Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) is needed to help understand further the viruses spreads and best remedies.

According to the CDC, as of January 20, 2020, “While CDC considers this is a serious public health concern, based on current information, the immediate health risk from 2019-nCoV to the general American public is considered low at this time. Nevertheless, CDC is taking proactive preparedness precautions.”

Currently the Coronavirus (2019-nCoV) virus is not on 3M disinfectant labels due to it being fresh on the scene. 3M will continue to keep you updated as we learn and more information is made available to us by the CDC, WHO, and/or the US EPA.
