3M Information Technology Internships

3M IT Interns have the opportunity to address relevant business concerns through both individual and team-orientated projects within functional areas throughout the 3M Information Technology organization, such as Data Analytics, ERP & Enterprise Applications, Infrastructure and Security. The projects represent real challenges faced by 3M and mirror the work of our full-time employees.

An IT internship is 10-12 weeks, typically starting in May and running through August.

Internships within IT are either hybrid or full remote, depending on candidate’s location.

3M IT interns could be assigned to any of the following areas:

• Data & Analytics. This organization supports enterprise-wide master data management, data engineering, data integration, data quality, and data science. Teams work with several technologies, including Power BI, Python, SQL, Snowflake, Power Platform, and more. Internship opportunities include both business and technical analyst.
• ERP Center of Excellence. This organization develops and delivers integrated global ERP solution to maximum value to 3M. The ERP COE focuses on providing an optimized experience for both customers and employees through an end-to-end process focus, which allows global teams to work differently and drive growth and productivity. Internship opportunities include business, technical analyst and developer roles in process teams such as supply chain, order management and many others.
• Enterprise Applications. This organization unlocks the power of digital technologies through leading edge technology & solutions to consolidate systems into platforms for common processes & data, which improve customer and employee experiences. The teams within this area work across research and development, corporate staff groups and many others. Internship opportunities are available for business analysis, technical analysis and development.
• Infrastructure Services. This organization provides flexible, enterprise-wide technologies to enable solutions and enhance platform performance and reliability to 3M’s customers, suppliers and employees. Infrastructure Services deploys and supports both on-premise and cloud technologies globally. Teams with internship opportunities include networking, edge computing, platform engineering, web hosting and others.
• Information Security, Risk & Compliance (ISRC). Our organization has a responsibility to safeguard sensitive information and assets. This encompasses protecting intellectual property, nonpublic corporate data, employee and customer privacy, confidential information entrusted to us by partners, and our technological infrastructure. We employ stringent measures to fortify our systems against cybersecurity threats such as malware, exploitation (hacking) attempts, and data breaches. Our information security team is comprised of business and technical experts across divisions including Security Risk Management, Security Governance, Cyber Defense, and Security Architecture.
