This works out at an average of 62 deaths and 556 serious injuries each and every week of the year and 1 minor injury every minute.
Boys under 11 are more than twice as likely as girls to be killed or seriously injured on foot .
The UK Government has set a target to reduce the number of children killed or seriously injured on roads by 50% by 2010, compared with the average for 1994–98.
The number of people killed or seriously injured in road accidents continues to fall across Great Britain but the child pedestrian death rate in the UK is twice that of countries like Sweden and Denmark.
