- prevent exposure by allowing crops to dry before storage
- buildings with large amounts of dusty material should be well ventilated
- farm chores that involve handling hay or straw should be mechanized as much as possible
- barn or stable floors, covered in dust from moldy crops, should be watered down before being swept
- wear a properly fitted NIOSH approved respirator selected for the task if you cannot avoid exposure*
- hay, with a high risk of spoilage, should be stored in silos rather than bales
- if you suspect that the hay or straw has deer mouse waste in it wear a high efficiency (100 level) respirator (call 3M 1-800-267-4414 for more information)
