Farming is a dangerous, high stress occupation.
Every year thousands of farmers are injured at work. Not surprisingly when farm injuries or fatalities are mentioned, most think of crushed bones, roll-overs, and amputations - few consider the life altering affects of respiratory damage. This form of injury does not make headlines and is often overlooked by those at risk. As a result, lives can be cut short or quality of life is changed forever because a potential harm was not known, ignored or mis-diagnosed.
In this section, you will see how specific farming tasks can place you, your family, and your coworkers at risk. For information on how to protect yourself and others, please see the "Choose a Respirator" section on this site.
