3M Introduces Bundled Fibers for Concrete

London - Until today, the concrete industry had only limited solutions to the problems of brittleness and cracking. Bringing a new solution to an old problem, the 3M brand Polyolefin Fibers for Concrete Reinforcement are effective in increasing concrete ductility, toughness and crack control.

Because of the way the 3M product is bundled, there is an increased fiber volume and no balling when properly mixed at high volumes. This bundle forms a delivery system that provides a uniform distribution of reinforced fibers into concrete composites, solving some of the initial problems of other fiber products.

Advantages of this new product include a reduction in plastic shrinkage cracks; an increased toughness (ASTM/JSCE); higher post-crack load-carrying capacity; increased flexural fatigue strength; increased durability and crack resistance; greater impact strength, and chemical/sulfate resistance.

The range of fiber volumes possible to give concrete "designer physical properties" is a feature specific to the 3M fibers. This bundled fiber system is also easy to use with standard mixing equipment, helping to solve concrete problems with equipment that is already in place.
