ESD Damage with the New 3M 963 Benchtop Air Ionizer
London.The 3M
Electronic Handling and Protection Division has released the
3M brand Model 963 Benchtop Air Ionizer, giving the electronic
industry a low-cost and efficient way to neutralize electrostatic
build-up at ESD workstations.
The new benchtop ionizer is a self-contained,
intrinsically balanced fan that ensures equal levels of positive
and negative ions are produced despite variations in line
voltage, fan speed and emitter point condition. No adjustment
or calibration is required to maintain ion balance.
This ionizer generates large amounts of ions,
resulting in rapid neutralization of electrostatic charge
within a 2-foot x 4-foot area. The powerful, two-speed fan
reduces a static charge of 1000V to 100V in less than one
second at a one-foot distance using the high fan speed. At
low speed the fan is extremely quiet and may be used without
contributing to the workstation's ambient noise. The gentle
airflow does not disturb paper or contribute to personal discomfort.
The injection-molded ionizer measures 7 inches
x 9 inches x 4 inches and is constructed of flame-retardant,
static-dissipative plastic that minimizes static charge build-up
on the surface of the housing. The unit is virtually maintenance
free, requiring only periodic cleaning of emitter points to
maintain optimum performance.
Meeting global regulatory requirements, the
ionizer is manufactured in an ISO 9002-registered facility
and carries the UL, C-UL, CE and NOM marks.
