Burton:
Break Through to Sleek, Trim Snowboard Gloves Featuring Thinsulate
Flex Insulation
London...Burton
sets a new standard in snowboard glove design for Fall '99
with its new Access Group and Super Pipe glove. The two groups
feature a trim, dexterous and durable silhouette made possible
by the use of Thinsulate Flex Insulation from 3M.
"These new designs lead the transition
away from the bulky, overstuffed glove trend in the snowboard
market," says Jim Frazier, category manager for Burton. "They
have such a trim silhouette that they're almost comparable
to a shooting glove."
Says Frazier, "Our team riders - image setters
for the sport - asked for a trim glove that will also keep
their hands warm. That's why we chose Thinsulate Flex insulation
from 3M and stretch materials. Thinsulate Flex insulation
allows us to use a 3-layer laminated stretch shell fabric
and more innovative palm materials. The combination of Thinsulate
Flex insulation and the stretch-laminated fabric on the back
of the hand allows us to bring a very fitted, durable, dexterous
product to market."
Sandwiched between, Thinsulate Flex insulation
stretches a full 40% in all directions. "It has such great
recovery, that it won't wrinkle the outer materials," explains
Christine Shumksy, sales and market manager, Insulation Products.
"It's the perfect solution for insulating high-performance
stretch materials that have little inherent warmth. It stretches
with these materials. Then it pops right back again."
For comparable weight, Thinsulate Flex insulation
has nearly 80% of the warmth of the original Thinsulate Insulation
which is nearly twice as warm as other high-loft insulations
when equal thicknesses are compared.
Also, like the original Thinsulate insulation,
Thinsulate Flex insulation retains its warmth even when it's
wet because it absorbs less than 1% of its weight in water.
Burton's new Access Group features both gloves
and mitts in men's and women's sizing, in multi-colorways.
